Inmate Visitation

Inmate visitation is held at the Sumter County Detention Center on scheduled days (See Schedule below).  All visitors prior to visiting an inmate at the Detention Center must be put on the inmate's visitation list by the inmate, and then the list has to be approved by Detention Center staff.
All visitors must have identification to be presented at the time of the visit and must not wear any clothing that is considered provocative.  Children visiting must also have identification or they will not be permitted to visit.  If the visitation rules are not followed by the visitor, the inmate will not be permitted to visit or the visit will be terminated by Detention staff.

E & F Thursday 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm
C, D & AC Friday 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm
G & L Thursday 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm
D/R Lockdown Wednesday 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Inmate Commissary Accounts

All inmates of the Detention Center have commissary accounts and are permitted to purchase items from the Detention Centers Commissary.  Person wishing to put money in an inmate's account may do so by money order only, cash will not be accepted!  The money order must contain the inmates name and may be mailed, or brought to the detention center.  If the funds are brought to the facility, the money order must be placed in the drop box which is located at the visitors lobby, on the west side of the Detention Center.

Inmate Mail

Inmates may write and receive correspondence. Incoming mail must have the inmate's name above or below the mailing address and must have a complete return address including full name of sender.  Postage, paper and envelopes are provided to the inmates through commissary. Inmates are permitted to receive paperback books, reading glasses and newspaper subscriptions that are mailed directly from the publisher to the Detention Center.  All reading material entering the facility becomes the property of the Sumter County Detention Center.  After the inmate who received the reading material is done with it, it will be placed in the Jail library.
