Detention Center

The Sumter County Detention Center houses inmates who are awaiting trial or have been sentenced to one year or less. Inmates are treated in a fair and professional manner as required by law and are provided programs such as GED, AA and Religious Programs.

Sumter County Detention Center Court ordered jail tours are provided for juveniles as well as adults. Finger printing is performed, at no charge, to the public, businesses and private organizations.
Vehicle identification number verification for citizens is also handled at the Detention Center.

On June 27, 2000 the Sumter County Detention Center was initially accredited by the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission. We were re-accredited in 2003 and we are the first small Jail in Florida to have been awarded this honor by the Commission.

On July 1, 2000, a minimum/medium security facility opened. 50 inmates are in an open bay setting.

We are currently in the design stage for a medium security facility that is needed to relieve overcrowding in the main jail.
